As of November 21, 2014, foreign nationals of Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone can take advantage of a new TPS (Termporary Protective Status) designation.
This is an important opportunity for such nationals and does NOT depend upon any Congressional action. While it does NOT provide any permanent relief for such persons, it mnay provide the opportunity to seek alternative routes to permanent status, and provides work authorization during the period of TPS.
It is important that those eligible apply immediately within the 180-day window for such applications, or the opportunity will be lost.
